There's nothing worse that putting time into looking good and then looking down...and seeing your tore up nail beds. Either about to walk out the door for work or going out for the evening, it's frustrating! But usually by the time you realize there's a problem, you don't have time left to deal with it.
This is what I do:
First, if you have the time, scrub your hands quickly. I suggest a pre-made mix of oils (can really be anything but I would include jojoba since it mimics sebum so well) and coarse salt. I used Sinfilicious brand that I made in their store or you can make your own. Wash.
Second, and if you can only do one step, rub oil into your cuticles. Vitamin E works best, but you can also use jojoba, avocado, etc. Really rich lotion does the trick also although it won't give your nails the nice shine oil does. Included in the picture above are options I use frequently. The oil with remove the appearance of dead skin and smooth out your skin.
Give it about fifteen to thirty seconds to sink in. Then wipe off the excess with a dry towel.
Note: if your nail polish is chipped, I highly recommend just taking it off. It looks terrible anyway. That being said, whatever remover you use (acetone based or otherwise) you must wash off your hands before doing this process. Adding some scent to you oil or lotion will tone down the smell from the remover as well.
Why do I know all this? I used to be a massage therapist and no one wants a massage from someone with rough hands or messed up nails.
